Position Overview

The Torque Tube Ground Crew Member supports the assembly and installation of torque tubes for single‑axis tracker systems on utility‑scale solar projects. This role is essential to building the mechanical foundation of the solar array, ensuring tubes are staged, aligned, connected, and secured according to engineering and manufacturer specifications. The position requires physical stamina, strong teamwork, and a commitment to safety and precision.


Key Responsibilities

Torque Tube Assembly & Installation

•               Stage, sort, and prepare torque tube components for installation.

•               Assist with aligning and connecting torque tubes across tracker rows.

•               Support top‑of‑post (TOP) crews by feeding tubes, holding alignment, and ensuring proper fitment.

•               Install couplers, bearings, and hardware as directed by mechanical leads.

•               Verify tube straightness and continuity to ensure smooth tracker rotation.

Material Handling & Workflow Support

•               Move torque tubes from laydown areas to installation zones using approved methods.

•               Maintain steady material flow to keep TOP crews productive.

•               Report damaged or defective components immediately.

Quality & Accuracy

•               Follow engineering drawings, installation manuals, and site standards.

•               Perform visual checks on hardware, spacing, and alignment.

•               Support QA/QC teams during inspections and make adjustments as needed.

Safety & Compliance

•               Adhere to all site safety rules, including PPE, equipment exclusion zones, and hazard reporting.

•               Participate in daily safety briefings and follow safe lifting and handling practices.

•               Maintain clean, organized work areas to reduce hazards and improve efficiency.

Team Coordination

•               Communicate clearly with equipment operators, TOP crews, and mechanical supervisors.

•               Assist with troubleshooting alignment issues or mechanical obstructions.

•               Support other mechanical tasks as needed to maintain production goals.

Qualifications

•               Experience in solar construction, mechanical assembly, or general labor preferred.

•               Ability to lift 50–70 lbs and work outdoors for extended periods.

•               Comfortable working around heavy equipment and in fast‑paced environments.

•               Basic understanding of hand tools, impacts, and mechanical components.

•               Strong teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.

•               Commitment to safety, quality, and production targets.


Work Environment

•               Outdoor utility‑scale solar construction site with exposure to heat, cold, wind, and dust.

•               Frequent bending, lifting, carrying, and working on uneven terrain.

•               Work performed near active equipment and installation crews.
